A Look Back- September 21st, 1897
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
Many people seem to still remember the legend of the Yes, Virginia letter, but I’m guessing few have ever read its important message. I remember the annual reprints in the NY Daily News when I was a kid.
A relative was a typesetter for the Daily News, and aside their large lobby with its distinctive giant Earth globe (used as the lobby for the Daily Planet in the Superman movie), they would host a great Santa Claus every year. As an added treat, I had my name appear in the paper each year I went, because they would print the names of all the kids who visited Santa each day in the newspaper!
