I’m going to edit and repeat a few paragraphs of my last travel/apology-related post here, with my latest numbers and other updates:
Fourteen more flights. 25,608 more miles flown, for a 12-month total of 68,927. (Not counting all the extra miles flown because flight paths are not all point-to-point.) Hundreds more miles by train. Hundreds of miles driven. Taxis, hotels, AirBnbs, subways, buses, rental cars, a friend’s home, and a couple of family member’s homes. Lots of walking.
New stories written here? Almost zero. Sorry. Really, I am.
But besides missing out on my love of writing, and of spinning tales here, I can’t complain.
Spent the first Thanksgiving away, ever, visiting with family at their usual huge reunion and celebration… which meant not hosting this celebration for a different subset of family for the first time in a long time.
A Spring Break trip to Scotland, a trip many years in the making.
Picked up my freshman from college, moved him out, and then staged his belongings at his next residence for this fall semester.
Visited my college roomie (my longest friend… friends since we were 14 years of age) with my youngest. We spent a great week in Washington DC, catching up on some places the rest of the family has seen… kind of a catch-up trip of many postponed during the pandemic. That’s okay though. We had to wait for the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum to halfway re-open after a multi-year renovation, anyway!
Spent some time in Germany.
These and other journeys will be the subject of future writings here, hopefully soon, while others have tales that will never be told... here, at least. (Nothing bad, I assure you, but just off-topic for our written adventures together here.)
I have an upcoming guys’ trip with my college roomie, also almost ten years in the making, that I expect will also provide me with a few topics to report on.
I also do owe one friend in Upper Michigan a visit, postponed from June 2022, but this one is difficult to schedule because of seasonal concerns, and being so busy during the good windows of weather there. It may be a while before this one happens.
The downside? Travel, even necessary travel, means eating. The food was good, and you only live once, ya know. I didn’t gain too many lbs, but need to continue working off the few I did gain… and, darn, I was doing so well!
I’ll be laying low on the carbs and dessert for a while, and doing lots of walking, weather permitting.
