I have writer friends within the local community with whom I can share my writing. They cheerfully provide wonderful feedback, and I do the same for them. I’m grateful for this camaraderie, as there are times I’ve wanted a critique on something I’ve written.
But there are times when I just want to write how I want to write. It may not be proper style, but it is the style that I want. I know how to write better and maybe not as good as other people, but I write how I want to. After all, Jack Kerouac typed On The Road on an unending roll of paper, single-spaced and without margins or paragraph breaks, and he did it because he wanted to.
I’m not saying that I am as good as Jack Kerouac, or even as good as my writer friends. But I am saying that like Kerouac, I’m writing in my style of my now, and that now is subject to change. After all, even Kerouac could write better than Kerouac.
All I can do now is hope that you’ll enjoy these essays…
