So it’s been a while, my friends. You’re probably sick of seeing my previous post for Oldboy, film #3 of 6 of My F*cked-Up Film Festival, and sick of seeing the image of Oldboy within, threatening you with his trademark hammer.
But maybe by now, you’ve finally found this hard-to-find film, even given my tips on finding it?
Heck, I even found it shown live, albeit in Germany. What can I say? I stumbled across a Korean Film extravaganza at this little theater in the city of Wuppertal in Germany, famous in engineering circles and among train aficionados for its 100+ year-old suspended monorail, the Schwebebahn.
Oldboy, Lady Vengeance (spoiler alert- you’ll hear more about that title soon), I Saw the Devil, Burning, Parasite, The Host- all were on the playbill at the New Korean Cinema in Wuppertal. The entire movie lineup is here, and I would’ve killed to have stayed a while longer to drop in on some of these, as I found this little gem towards the end of my stay! My only problem, besides not staying in town, is that I don’t speak German or Korean so I’m dependent on those English subtitles!
Their non-Korean lineup was also strong, and there’s others, too, not listed right here because they have a total of three arthouse theaters in town. I could really hang out there for a while!
So, a Recap is in Order
So you know I had COVID during the third week in April. It was like a flu. Not a mild flu, not the worst flu, but definitely a moderate flu… but shorter.
Four days into my symptoms I peaked. I was miserable that Friday. Thinking I was in for a rough weekend, on Saturday I awoke 70% better. Wow, I’ll take it. Sunday? 90% better. That 90%+ was status quo for about a week, until I went negative, with only a part-time nagging cough for a couple (or few) weeks.
I don’t think I’ve had any long-COVID effects that I know of. It did take me weeks to shake the cough, if you count going from a frequent cough, to a slight cough, all the way to zero cough. It also took me about three weeks to clear my foggy head, although this happens to me after ample antihistamines, decongestants, expectorants and cough suppressants anyway, plus lack of sleep, COVID or no COVID.
(Yes, foggy brain can be a symptom of COVID, but this one seemed like my other medicine-related episodes, so who’s to tell?) Either way, it was hard to write with foggy brain.
By then, I was enveloped by the above-named distractions. Good distractions. Life events, and more… that all made it hard to write.
See you in the next one. Enjoy!
